Creation of the Russian production of plastic cards with a microchip

JSC "Research Institute of Molecular Electronics and Plant" Mikron " - the largest chip manufacturer in Russia and the CIS, founded in 1964. The company performs a full cycle of chip manufacturing, including design, crystal production and assembly.

Since 2006 JSC «NIIME i Mikron» implements a production modernization project, within the framework of which the transfer and development of the 180 nm EEPROM technology of the European microelectronics leader STMicroelectronics was carried out.

In June 2007, the Industrial Information Agency, by order of the Research Institute of Molecular Electronics and the Mikron plant, conducted a market research of chip modules and smart cards.

The study revealed market prices, showed the competitive situation and the potential for the development of smart cards as means of payment, transport, fuel and other cards.

For 2 years (from 2006 to 2008) the revenue of OJSC "NIIME AND MIKRON" increased three times - from 1.8 billion rubles. up to 5.5 billion rubles, which was made possible thanks to a range of high-tech products targeted at the mass market: 

smart cards — smart cards, transport, fuel and other RFID cards (using radio frequency identification technology), sim cards, bank cards with a chip, social cards, Universal electronic card.

The universal electronic card is used for remote ordering, payment and receipt of public services, replacement of a medical policy and an insurance pension certificate, combining an identification card, an electronic wallet, a bank card, an electronic signature, a travel ticket on one card.

Micron has 400 customers in Russia and 100 in other countries.

In the Mikron group of companies 3,000 people work, of which 1,700 people work at OAO NIIME and Mikron.

Revenue in 2013 amounted to 6.5 billion rubles.
