Fluorite, fluorspar - mineral, calcium fluoride CaF2.

Flotation fluorite used in the production   cryolite (hereinafter referred to as aluminum), anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (hereinafter referred to as fluoroplast and freon).

The demand of the Russian market for lump fluorspar (FK-75) of metallurgical grade is mainly met by imports.

In 2001, Yaroslavl GOK announced plans to build a pilot plant for the production of fluorite briquettes in order to familiarize consumers with the quality of this product and identify potential partners. In the future, it was supposed to create an industrial plant with a capacity of 100,000 tons fluorite briquettes per year.

At the beginning of 2002, the Yaroslavl GOK installed briquetting lines. In April of the same year, an experimental batch of briquettes in the amount of 171.2 tons was received, which was sent for study to consumers - Taganrog Metallurgical Plant and Mechel, from their received positive results.

In 2005, the Yaroslavl GOK came under the control of the Russian Mining Company, later renamed into LLC Yaroslavl Mining Company

April 18, 2008 The Board of Directors of the Management Company "Russian Mining Company" approved the investment program for the production of  briquetted fluorspar  metallurgical grade of the Yaroslavl GRK.

This would reduce the import of metallurgical fluorspar to Russia, enter the foreign market with this product and use low-grade fluorite concentrates obtained during the production of high-quality flotation concentrate, reduce losses during drying, storage and transportation.

It was planned to acquire a briquetting line from "Maschinenfabrik Keppern GmbH & Co. KG" with a capacity of 100 thousand tons. fluorite  briquettes brand FB-75 per year, with a total investment of 200 million rubles.

In the autumn of 2008, by order of Yaroslavl mining company Industrial Information Agency studies of the world market of fluorite briquettes and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride.

The economic crisis that broke out had a strong impact on Russian Aluminum, a co-owner of the Russian Mining Company. and a monopoly customer for products of the Yaroslavl Mining Company.

The most severe savings in Russian Aluminum crossed out investment plans.

In 2009 and 2010 The Yaroslavl mining company suspended work due to economic problems.

On September 10, 2013, the Yaroslavl Mining Company stopped: Rusal announced plans and deadlines for the conservation of equipment and dismissal of employees, and since May 20, 2014, it has been looking for a buyer for the Yaroslavl Mining Company.

Thus, failure to make a decision for 12 years to launch a briquetting line as a protective mechanism (against cataclysms in the aluminum market) led to a complete shutdown of the enterprise.
