Plans for setting up isocyanate production in Russia

The Military Council of Tsarist Russia June 18, 1915 decided to build  a new state-owned explosives plant in the Nizhny Novgorod province, and on June 27,1916, Emperor Nicholas II approved this decision by signing a Decree on the construction  ;Nizhny Novgorod Explosives Plant".

November 24, 1922 the plant was named after the first chairman All-Russian Central Executive Committee – Ya.M. Sverdlov and, in the same year, its own TNT production was launched.

During the Great Patriotic War, output increased 2.5 times compared to the pre-war period. For four war years, the plant. Ya.M. Sverdlov fired 148 million artillery shells and mines, 5.5 million air bombs, & nbsp; 5 million anti-tank mines, 2.8 million rockets for Katyusha mortars.

At the end of the 80s the country embarked on the rails of perestroika, the enterprise began to have difficult times: the defense order of the state, on which the plant was oriented, gradually decreased and in 1992 occupied less than 10% of the production volume.

The management of the enterprise was constantly looking for ways development.

Nitrobenzene is used to produce some explosives at the plant. In the civilian segment, aniline is obtained from nitrobenzene, which is sent to the production of methyl diisocyanates used for polyurethanes.

In 2006, the management of the Sverdlov Plant, taking into account the availability of nitrobenzene, became interested in the prospects of the isocyanate market.

After careful selection of contractors, the Industrial Information Agency was chosen.

Research we did:

- showed the potential of import substitution of the existing market of isocyanates,

- revealed factors influencing the growth in demand for polyurethanes,

- the situation with raw materials including the first, second and third levels (respectively aniline, nitrobenzene, benzene and toluene),

- expedient scale of production,

- the level and dynamics of prices in the market,

- the necessary competitive advantages for the success of the project and other information.

The results of the study made it possible to carefully assess the risks of the project.

The program of strategic development of the enterprise from 2007 to 2015 included the evaluation of 100 investment projects, of which 14 were recognized as priority at the plant.

The ambiguous composition of competitive advantages and the need to develop other projects to recognize isocyanates.

The plant's efforts have been applied in other areas, a number of investment projects have been implemented:

- launch of Pronit"product (strategic fuel for torpedoes);

- production of polyacrylates has begun.

- the production of cetane-enhancing additives for diesel fuel has begun, which eliminated dependence of Russian oil refining on imports,

- production of lubricants has begun: lithol 24, LZTsNII, grease

- the introduction of powder coating technology has begun,

- start of production strontium and anthracene;

- the production of formalin and KFK-85,

- the reconstruction and technical re-equipment of red phosphorus production facilities is nearing completion.

According to the results of 2015 there isocyanates manufacturers are not in Russia and CIS countries.
