A pre-investment study of the aramid fiber market

Aramid is a synthetic polyamide whose high-strength fibers are used in bulletproof vests, ballistic materials, flame retardant clothing and other areas.

For the production of  aramid fibers, 5(6)-amino-(2-p-aminophenyl) benzimidazole ("Softener-2"), produced in Russia by Novocheboksarsky Khimprom, is used.

The management company of Novocheboksarsky Khimprom - Renova Orgsintez - initiated an investment project for the production of aramid fibers, taking into account the competitive advantage in the form of its own raw materials.

On May 29, 2009, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Chuvash Republic by Decree N 178  included the creation of an aramid fiber plant in a comprehensive program for the innovative development of the industry of Chuvashia.

In 2010, Renova Orgsintez decided to evaluate the economic feasibility of setting up the production of aramid fibers based on the current and forecast market conditions. The Industrial Information Agency, which has experience in researching the composites markets, was selected to carry out the research on the aramid fiber market.

Pre-investment market research showed the potential for import substitution, the structure of demand for aramid fibers, the price level and a number of other indicators for making management decisions on an investment project.

Considering the results of the study, the management of the company "Renova Orgsintez" postponed the start of the project, despite the competitive advantages and support of the regional authorities.
