Pipe market for fast neutron reactors

Fast neutron reactor (FNR) pipes

In September 2011, a study of the market for special pipes for RBN was completed in the interests of ChMP.

By 2011,         the only operating energy's FRN in the world was BN-600 at the Beloyarsk NPP in the Sverdlovsk region. In addition, two nuclear RBN with a total capacity of 600 megawatts play the role of power plant  missile cruiser "Peter the Great".

Increased safety requirements have led to the introduction of a closed nuclear fuel cycle with fast neutron reactors. To solve this problem, Russia has accumulated experience and research infrastructure.

In addition to Russia, intensive programs for the development of RREE are conducted by India and China,  due to the increase in electricity consumption in these countries, the shortage of uranium, the tightening of reactor safety and environmental requirements.

Taking into account the declared plans for the construction and commissioning of a sodium-cooled RBN,  by 2020 it is possible to increase the number of such installations up to 12 units.

June 27, 2014 at the Beloyarsk NPP, the second RBN (the first of the BN-800 series) began to reach the minimum power level. December 10 2015, the power unit with the BN-800 reactor was included in the Ural power system.

It is planned to build the first BN-1200 reactor by 2020 at the 5th power unit of the Beloyarsk NPP,  and by by 2030 - another 8 serial BN-1200 reactors including those at South Ural NPP.
